I wonder if someone can help with the following. We are looking at replacing our Escort with a 1992 Saab 900i Automatic. When we tested the car two things came up that I could not answer.

      – The light for the Anti Lock on the dashboard was on, the owner said that this happened every now and then. Could this be a faulty instrument light or an indication that there could be a fault/worn ABS sensors.

      – On the last “besiktning” paper is showed Lambda 1.02 (0.9-1.03) Is 1.02 bad or good, I have looked at pricing for a new Lambda and they are expensive.

Any help would be appreciated so that we can decide to buy or not.

      Regards Gary/Elisabeth

Martin – Thanks for the information. I knew the Lambda checked the exhaust gases but was not sure what the figures meant. I was a little concerned that the figure was an indication that the unit was old or worn, but if it is an indication of the mixture then a good tune up should help.

            You are welcome, Gary.

Martin – The price looks low compared to what other suppliers are offering, 1.000-2.000. Something to look into another time.

Another questions that has come up. We need to fit a tow bar and I have read that when fitting a tow bar to some automatics you need to fit an oil cooler in order to get it through “besiktning”. Does anyone know if the 900 Automatic needs to have an oil cooler fitted.

              Regards – Gary

Another Saab in the stables. We took the plunge and bought the 1992 Saab 900i 2.1 Automatic. Now we are both converted over to Saabs.

Turns out there was no fault with the “Anti-lock” itself but rather the warning circut, but will give the system a going over.

As with most second hand cars, there is a bit to do, which is also the fun part. Replace the rear bumper, fit a tow bar, and look into the oil cooler.

I may seem ignorant, but is the oil cooler for the engine oil or the gearbox oil?

Thanks for the help and advice so far – Gary & Elisabeth
