I wonder if anyone can help me. I have a 1971 Saab 96 V4 and a 1966 Thomson Glenn T-Line caravan. I have tried towing the caravan a few times but I am a little worried that it might be a bit heavy for the car.
Rather than just drive off into the sunset and ruin the V4 I wonder if anyone has experience with towing caravans with the 96. The caravan weighs in at 570kg unloaded but I think the biggest problem is the wind resistance as the caravan is 2.4m from ground to highest point and the 96 is only 1.47m from ground to highest point.21 juni, 2007 kl. 07:37 #108166
I have no experience with caravans at all [except for buliding a tear drop :-)], but I think that you just need to adapt the speed. Gear down early when you go uphill, and generally don’t force the engine, especially not in low revs. I would guess that the power it takes to pull your caravan in 80 km/h is less than half the engine power, so it shouldn’t be a problem. I would make a test run over say 50 km on various roads on a hot day and keep an eye on the engine temperature, and take further decisions from there.

Martin – Thanks for the advice, will take it out on a run the first sunny day. Congrats on getting your Teardrop through besiktning, am very impressed with the build and look forward to seeing it in sometime in the future at one of the meetings.
