I have a ’56 92B with 28hp. It goes without saying that I need to get every bit of horsepower out of my car to try and keep up with traffic (alas, this is a losing battle!).
I know my two stroke is a high-revving engine. However, the car has no tachometer and I have no real experience with high revving engines so I am actually afraid to take the car to its full potential since I don’t know the safe limits of the car. I am sure that I consistently shift prematurely out of fear of damaging my car.
Can anyone tell me what the redline is on a 28hp 92B, and, where I can purchase a tachometer with this redline?
I think installing such a tachometer would greatly enhance my driving experience while giving me a peace of mind that I am not over-revving my engine.
Tack!
Jimfebruari 23, 2013 kl. 17:56 #52690-I think there have been modifications done to lower the revs on a 92, some modification on the gearbox.
-According to the manual the peak in horse power is at 3800 rpm.
– All after market rev counters I’ve seen have a adjustable ”red line”, the pointer can be set as you wish.februari 23, 2013 kl. 18:06 #52691You can also buy one with a shift light and set it for the required rpm.

2 stroke, 2 cylinder means 2 pulses per engine revolution – which is just like any 4-cyl 4-stroke. On the other hand, the fact that it has kind of a funky ignition system with two coils etc; and 6V electrics; would lead me to look in the motorcycle world for a suitable tach. Get one for a 1-cyl 2-stroke 6V motorcycle, and hook it up to either one of your coils.
februari 24, 2013 kl. 11:22 #52704What about a tach for marine purposes? Isn’t two-stroke technology still used widely in boat engines? Snowmobiles? Jet-Ski?
will maybe something like this work?
februari 25, 2013 kl. 18:02 #52749Model: 2CT52-6V on http://www.westach.com/products/SINGLE/2%20INCH/TACHOMETERS/index.php maybe? Not exactly cheap but should work.
Hej Patrik,
An excellent lead, thank you.
I found another source as well, even MORE expensive; they modify & modern vintage tachs. They are here:

I am currently talking to them about preparing a vintage Sun tach that will work on my 92B. If we come to an agreement expect to see a photos here. 🙂
Thanks to all!
