It never rains but pours! I started servicing the rear brakes on my Saab 96 V4 71′ and found that the wheel back plates (bromssköld) are badly rusted, the brake brackets on the axel arm are just rust, and most of the nuts have been put on with a pair of pliers. There is no way I can repair the parts and must look for virtually a complete rear axle assembly for the car. I know there is a scrap yard near Goteborg that has a few V4’s but does anyone know of a scrap yard near Helsingborg that has V4’s that I might salvage the parts from, or does anyone have a V4 they are stripping that would have the parts and they would be interested in getting rid of them. The most important is the ”bromssköld” and the ”bakaxel med axeltappar” (left hand side).

At Hasanovs in Bjuv I´ve found V4 parts.
Good luck.15 juli, 2006 kl. 09:27 #96618
Have tried contacting them, some are closed for the weekend or on holiday, Arons looked but did not have it, Hasanovs will look for the part. Will keep searching.

I am starting to run out of options with finding the parts for the car. Tried all the scrap yards, and a few more but nothing going. I just took it in for besiktning and it failed because the plates under the rear spring were rusted. So I now need to try and find a set of them as well, anyone know where I can get the plates from.

The plates UNDER the springs? Do you mean the plates that are bolted to the rear axle and support the springs lower ends? I have loads of those. I do not have the U-shaped brackets.
Mail me your addresse and I’ll send a pair to you.19 juli, 2006 kl. 14:46 #96621
Mats – Thanks for the quick response. I have sent an email with the details.19 juli, 2006 kl. 18:26 #96622
You can use one of these exhaustgizmos as a U-shaped bracket. Get one that fits in the holes in the springseat and use the U-part. Take care when you remove the screw if it is rusted! (The third hole in the springseat.)
The springseats are in left and right versions!

Bengt – Went to Mekonomen with one of the old u-bolts and found a match, 28 mm ”rørklamma”. All dimensions the same, length, width, thread diameter and length. 12.50 each.
One thing I did find that is not shown in the parts manual is a spacer under the spring seat between the two shafts of the u-bolt. Does anyone know if the spacer is standard or if it has been fitted afterwards.
