      I was out looking for some images of 96 V4’s that have been prepared for racing on a track but have not been able to find any.

      Does anyone know of, or have, images of V4’s prepared for the race track, likewise if there is information on what has been done to the cars.

      Any pointers would be appreciated.

        1972 körde Per Eklund/Sigvard Johansson 6-timmarslopp på Nurnburgring i en skärmbreddad V4.

            Hur såg chassiet ut på dessa bilar? Var drivaxlarna etc längre eller är det fälgarna som är annorlunda? Och hur var bakaxeln konstruerad?

              Mats – From what I have been able to work out, the car is based on a 1971 Saab V4, 1498cc engine (std size but not sure whats been done to it), the wheels are very wide and seem to be 13″ 4-bolts. US Front and it looks like near standard interior but I haven’t seen a good close up yet. They raced the car in 1971 and 72. It looks like a half (rear) roll cage, in the car, was this the norm in the early 70’s?

              Does anyone have drawings for the half-roll cage for the 96, I would like to get hold of one or build one.

              Any further information would be appreciated. Once I have been able to gather/confirm the information I will put out all out on the forum.

                Hvis du mangler info omkring 96 V4 racer, har jeg en stående….
                Den har kørt som rally bil i Sverige, men er nu ombygget til banerace….

                              När det gäller Saab-Sigges bilar så är det säkert “hemsmide”.

                                Ole – Thanks for posting the images, I am still looking for information. So far I have been able to get copies of the regulations and homologation papers, a lot of reading to do. What division does your car race in and what year is it.

                                If you still race, when and where will you be out again so that I can plan a trip over to see it in action.

                                Per-Arvid – Thanks, I am impressed with the size of wheels fitted to the car without modifying the bodywork, must be very stiff springs/shocks fitted.

                                Mats – You mention that the exhaust on Johansson’s car looks like a std-B exhaust, is this the same type of “sports” exhaust you can get from the Saabklub or the one your where looking for.

                                  To call the system in the photo above a “Std-B” is really a little careless, since you can’t decide whether it is a true std-B or not. The most significant feature of the std-B-system was/is the bend the pipe on the right hand side of the engine does around the oil filter. The design is said to give an equally long way for the fumes from both sides and that they collide at the Y-junction in a favourable way. The only thing you can be sure of is that the system in the photo is congruent with SSK’s sport system” since it uses the original holes in the floor.
