      Hello!

I recently bought a Sonett II V4 ’68 (#335). The car is generally in good shape, but needs some work still to get back on the road.

The chassis is already fixed (welded some rustholes), the brakes and engine+gearbox seem to work fine. The body needs a new paint as the old paint-job is falling of and is in rather bad condition. Interior is not complete as the carpets and trunk-floor plate (wooden plate like 96?) are missing, but I can possibly get templates from a friend.

I am wondering if I can get some automatic seat belts for it?
The original belts are there, but I don’t trust them because they don’t look good anymore. Maybe I can use something from Sonett III or other cars?

I would also like to change the seats for the version with headrests like installed in ’69. Are they the same like Sonett III?

      Thanks for your help!

      Best Regards,
      Erik

PS: Will join Sonett-Club soon. :h

I don’t know what kind of seatbelts there are in a Sonett but if our ready to do some modifications you could probably mount from a 96 -79 or a 900 79-93! I know that there are some strange rules about mounting different seatbelts in a car. Can’t seem to remember what they are thoe!

We have some instructions, with pictures, on our home page (in Swedish) on how to do this with a Saab 95/96. Maybe they can be of use for your Sonett?

              Hello!

              Thanks for the replys.

I had hoped that someone here knows exactly. But thanks for the input nontheless. 😉

Yes, I had already checked some universal retrofit seatbelt systems that are available (and legal) for oldtimer cars. I can maybe check if the Sonett III belts would fit if I can take them out of my dads Sonett III for verification. If that doesn’t fit and someone knows – please let me know so I can safe some time wasting. 😛

Sulo, my dad is already member in SSK. But I could indeed join as a family member. Will check that out, would be nice to support.

I will sure come up with more questions….

              Best Regards,
              Erik

                Hello Erik,

I did install automatic seatbelts from Saab 99 rear seat, model 81 – 84, in mine.
Same installation of reels (on top of hatshelf on the 99). Works fine.
Can send photos if you wish.

                Welcome in the Sonett club.

                Regards
                Arne

                  Hej Arne!

Sounds good. Pictures would be nice. 😀

                  I send you a PM.

                  Best regards,
                  Erik

As for the seats, the ones in the Sonett 3 is not the same as the ones in Sonett -69.

You could restore the seat belts instead, change the ”threading / tape” or whatever and use them as is. Seat belts probably doesn’t add to much safety in these cars, driving them is like sitting in a tin can with a thin layer of plastic foil above….but hilariously fun after some tweaking with the engine!! :AP

                      Hej!

Well, without seat belts it is still more unsafe / uncomfortabel for me. I think that even the small things, that can increase safety, should be done.
Yes, I already thought about getting the belts rebuilt. Found some company in Germany that seem to offer this. Have to clarify if TÜV accepts this or not. 🙄

For the engine I will check it. The car came with a sports exhaust from MSS (Jack Lawrence) and as the engine appears to be very lively I will also check if there is a tuning camshaft inside. If not, I have some nice parts on spare that could tune it up a little bit…

As for the seats. Can the Sonett III seats be made to fit? Or is it a big difference compared to the Sonett II seats?
Would like to have seats with headrests. Hm…

                      Cheers,
                      Erik
